Medieval salt fire. Stoneware produced in the traditional procedure by work done by hand.
The salt fire is an old workmanship which found its beginning in the 13/14th century. After a process of burning of several days the salt fire is produced at a burning temperature between 1300° degrees Celsius and 1350° degrees Celsius. Salt is by sprinkle brought by the stove in different openings (sides and ceiling air holes) into the combustion chamber. The salt crystals immediately vaporize by the high heat. The steam arising in this process combines with the tone glowing black/red to a silicate, the so-called Salt fire (Salzbrannt). Stone goods are burned ready this one a silk matt has finished depending on location in the stove to a high gloss surface. The salzbebrannte burning process is high effort connected and is also more expensive than other ceramic or stone goods therefore. The production requires many experience and knowledge. Very few potteries only deal with old traditional salt fire technology today.
The salt fire stone product is nonpoisonous. Automatic dishwashers and stove celebration, acid and lye constant and is completely waterproof and stands out due to its extreme surface hardness.
Every salt fire stone product is a single item of the traditional German workmanship and has the particularly high value measuring therefore.
